What if . . . School could be better?
5
Be the best at getting better . . .
School exists for learning, it is about the learner, and should be about how to learn . . . So how can we know when students learn, and do we do something about it when they don’t… So what if the environment adapted to the students so we can make this promise to each learner?
6
That would look like . . . First best instruction followed by targeted intervention Engaging activities filled with rigor and rich in content Open access to all levels and parts of the curriculum Teachers gaining one on one time with students that need it Time available to intervene, to catch up, to be prepared Adapted to help each student in their unique learning style
7
The real question is . . . Why Not?
8
History of Office Hours
It started with the guiding statements and questions for PLC All students can learn, and at high levels What do we do when they aren’t? Listened to experts, went on visits, asked others what they do Formed teacher committee Trained the staff in PLC through Solution Tree, and many others also in RTI Made a plan, lost the vote of the staff by a couple of percentages Revised the plan, won the vote the next year Looking to make it a permanent part of school culture
