2 Problems with Big Business
In the late 1800s in America - Workers Faced: -Long Hours (10-12 per day) -Low wages ($10 per week, if lucky) -Unsafe conditions -Tedious (boring) work -Businesses prospered, often at their worker’s expense -Many workers responded by organizing

3 Workers Organize Anarchy – Want to abolish all government
Labor Unions – Collections of workers that negotiate with business owners for better wages and working conditions Knights of Labor – Loose federation of workers from all sorts of trades Collective Bargaining – All workers of a business acting collectively by negotiating with management for wages, benefits and working conditions Many business leaders thought Unions were Socialists or Anarchists Socialism – System where all members of society are equal owners of all businesses, sharing all work and profit Anarchy – Want to abolish all government
