1 Mrs. Hammar’s 5th Grade News
October 15th - 19th , 2018 Mrs. Hammar’s 5th Grade News Adventure awaits… A Closer Look Reading: We are taking a break from our textbook to read the novel Esparanza Rising. This is a great multicultural story about a girl (Esperanza) who thought she'd always live with her family on their ranch in Mexico. But a sudden tragedy forces Esperanza and Mama to flee to California during the Great Depression, and to settle in a camp for Mexican farm workers. We will have worksheets and short assignments to complete throughout the novel…Be sure to check in with your child to see how the story is going! Religion: Our new chapter starts this week as we focus on Baptism. Heads up…students have questions to ask you and can bring in a picture if available. We will attend Adoration on Wednesday – for silent prayer and reflection. 3rd grade is hosting Mass this week! Math: Please check planners for details. Hi Parents! Friday Folders and Comm. Cards are due no later than Tuesday each week. Please check planners and help your child confirm completion of assignments to avoid “hole punches” on their Comm Cards. I post what should be written in planners to my website each night! Finally, Student Council Is holding a Bake Sale On Monday and Tuesday for Hurricane donations. Have a great week! Cooler temps are here – please make sure your child is dressed for the weather and outdoor recess  We have one more small bit of IOWA Testing this week. Our Religion testing is online and will be completed on Wednesday. Mason Schools have Professional Development on Thursday and Friday of this week so we will not have P.E. on Thursday or Computer class on Friday  Hopefully the weather is nice enough for an extra recess! 
