An identity eg – we are called Christians
Distinguishes the person or thing from others
A source of strength (The Name of the LORD is a strong tower, Prov 18v10)
Names given to people are sources of strength (eg Daniel represents one who
stood for GOD/overcomer, Joseph is known for holiness and revelation etc)

7. Importance of a Name
Name is so important that it comes first on almost any form you fill
Even at an interview, they will most times first confirm your name and some are very careful to pronounce your name correctly
Name confers authority (eg The Queen after her signature will write her name)
Name marks hereditary
Name denotes pedigree (eg the Aristocrats “Elizabeth, William, George)
Name gets one’s attention eg calling one’s name. Hence that is why people are offended when people are calling their name falsely
 Everything about JESUS’ deity, power and mission were enshrined in that name
- GOD always choose/changes the name to fit the purpose eg Abram to
Abraham, Sarai to Sarah, Jacob to Israel

 The enemy will do anything to keep the TRUTH from people
I AM the way the TRUTH and the LIFE (John 14v6)
You shall know the TRUTH and the TRUTH shall set you free (John 8v32)

-Free from sickness
- Free from demonic oppression
Who the Son sets free is free indeed (John 8 v36)
 Today you will know how to use the Name of JESUS and you shall be set free in JESUS’ name….Amen!

Occult power…etc
All the above are powerless powers
 The real power is in the Name of JESUS!

12. How to use the Name of JESUS

As many as receive HIM to them gave HE power to become the sons of GOD (John 1v12)
-Ability to live righteously like JESUS
- Ability to preform miracles
-Ability to defeat the devil and demons
JESUS is reliable
JESUS is the sweetest name I know because HE is always the same
- Heb 13 v8: JESUS is the same yesterday, today and forever
JESUS is always there for us
- Matt 28 v20: Lo I AM with you always even into the end of the world

When in trouble, some call the name of their mum
others call the name of their village
Who you gonna call (118118) advert
 When in trouble, call the name of JESUS
-At the name of JESUS every knee shall bow
- JESUS said the SPIRIT of the LORD is upon ME … to set the captive
free – that is HIS mission statement
- The Name of the LORD is a strong tower and the righteous run into HIM

David knew how to use GOD’s name (1 Sam 17 v45)

 The Name of JESUS is more powerful than any physical weapon

Only through JESUS’ name can you get anything from GOD the FATHER
And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full – John 16:23-24 (KJV)
