Senchiamma School ANNUAL UPDATE FOR 2017 Shanthi Sravanakumar November 15th 2017 The basics. The general flow of slides is as follows. First, try to give an overall picture of the organization. Second, describe how Asha, Seattle fits into the organization. Third, give the yearly update.

Runs many schools and other social welfare organizations. Also involved in rescuing people from bonded labor and similar situations Senchiamma School Focus on primary education for children Nutrition during the early years

Asha, Seattle is the only funding organization No other non-profits support this project No savings in the bank Expect questions on biggest sources of income, how much they contribute, bank balances,.. Audit report is a good place where you can get some information. But speak to the partner to fill in the blanks.

But be sure to cover the included checklist as it is pretty basic. Add more slides for to customize it to a specific project.

11 Asha, Seattle Budget for the previous 3 years
Oct 2016 payment of $13,931 was made towards the previous 3 years budget approval Approved budget for – INR 4,20,000 – INR 3,82,000 – INR 3,18,000 This budget was used for feeding the kids and the salary of the teacher and the cook/maid. There was also a one-time approval for the following: April $3925 for roof construction Oct $3,034 Out-door play sets Line items of the budget. Note the comparison between the two years. 13 General Partner Updates/Updates for Asha
Continuous care so automatically students enroll in primary/high school Older students return to help Village people help in running the school by helping with cooking etc 31 students in early childhood center – kids from 6 months to 6 years. 4 kids are moving to elementary school in June 2017 Overall updates first.

14 Site Visit Report Site Visit report from May 31, 2017
Shanthi and her daughter Samhita visited the school 26 kids were in school that day (out of 31 kids) Kids recited alphabets, songs etc. Kids were healthier because of the meal program 10:30am – small fruit like dates 12:30 – lunch with vegetables, eggs once a week Place holder for site visit report. Kids continue to join the nearby government school Mariamma, who is the current teacher, and who has been at the school since its inception, continues to be a steady factor Folks in the village are proud of the school and the students’ accomplishment Class room had new learning materials like charts of alphabets, numbers, animals etc. Kids were able to do simple arithmetic problems as well as recite alphabets and songs Place holder for site visit report. The Government Elementary School teacher said that the kids from Senchiamma School are healthy and are reasonably prepared for the elementary grades Bharathi Trust got $3034 in October 2015 to build out-door playsets Due to safety concern (lack of compound wall for the school), playset project hasn’t been done. Building toilet is more of an immediate need and the estimate for 1 toilet is around Rs. 82,000 Place holder for site visit report. Add more slides if necessary.

How many rs are we spending per kid per year? Does the amount being spent on infrastructure items (building schools, repairing roofs, etc. ) look reasonable? Where exactly is the partner located? (especially for remote projects. Be ready to locate the project area on a map) What is the graduation rate of the school? What is the student to teacher ratio in class rooms? What is the girl to boy ratio in the school? What are the line items in the budget? Why is the partner asking for more funding for line item N? (You will be asked this if there are changes in the budget line items) Community opinion of the project. What went well, what didn’t go as expected, what can be done differently.
