1 January 15 Vocabulary: Renal *Hepatic artery Organs:
Carotid *Hepatic Portal vein Gastric *Hepatic vein Coronary These words match with organs. And relate to the blood flow to and from each. Organs: Kidneys Liver Head Stomach Heart

2 Monday’s Homework questions
1.Which parts of the heart pump blood into (a) the pulmonary artery? (b) the aorta? 2.Why do ventricles have thicker walls than the aorta?

3 Answers to home work a. The Right Ventricle pumps the blood to the pulmonary artery b. The Left Ventricle pumps blood to the aorta 2. Ventricles are sending blood out of the heart. (The right ventricle to the lungs and left ventricle to the body). So the ventricles muscle needs to be able to push the blood with enough force to get it to where it needs to go. Therefore it needs to be thicker

5 Every structure in the body needs blood to supply it with oxygen and nutrients. These same structures also need a means to get rid of their own waste products. Very simply, each organ has a one-way pipe going into it, feeding it, and a one way pipe going out, like flushing a toilet. So - where does all this start? If you study the simplified diagram, you'll see that the blood travels endlessly around in a path. Blood is pumped by the heart's contractions. Without a beating heart, there would be no blood flowing anywhere.

6 Anatomical diagrams

7 How to figure out other Diagrams
You’ll see many different diagrams that demonstrate the double circulatory system. Find the lungs & body tissue (top & bottom) Find the R Atrium L Atrium Understand the placement of vessels is NOT representative of true vessel anatomy Which picture is the correct diagram? Tell me why the other 3 are wrong.

8 I. Label the diagram Aorta Left Atria Left Ventricle
Lungs Right Atria Right ventricle Pulmonary Artery Pulmonary Vein Vena Cava  Tissues of the body(4) II. Colour the path of oxygenated blood red and deoxygenated blood blue.(6) III. Use arrows to indicate blood flow direction.(1) IV. Capillaries are to body tissues as  _______________ are to lungs. (4) V. Match the organ with its corresponding blood supply: Brain renal heart coronary liver carotid spleen gastric stomach hepatic

9 Homework Why do arteries need strong walls? Tell three differences in pulmonary artery and veins. Which have valves arteries or veins? What is the function of capillaries? Match the blood system’s Latin name with the organ it delivers blood to. Coronary head Carotid kidney Hepatic stomach Renal heart Gastric liver
