The basic definition of portrait photography is photography of a person or group to capture the personality of the subjects using various lighting, backgrounds, and techniques.

2 TRADITIONAL PORTRAIT Refers to an image where face is the predominant element. The purpose of the photograph is to depict visual representation of that person. Subject is expected to be looking directly at the camera. described as a head-shot, two thirds or full body framing can be used

3 POSED PORTRAIT Where the subject is fully aware of your presence and selects a certain body posture or costume for the picture. Can include “Traditional Portraits” or other types of portrait photographs in this Powerpoint! Usually, the photographer communicates to the subject by words or by action to create a change in body position or expression

4 Self-portrait A picture/photograph that you make of or about yourself. A self-portrait considers the interiority of the artist; it's a moment for self-reflection, to pause and to look at yourself. Yes, a selfie is technically a smaller branch of self- portraiture—it’s quick and less considered within the arts.

5 ENVIRONMENTAL PORTRAIT

Subject and setting are chosen by the photographer. For example, a worker photographed at the construction zone, teacher in the classroom, sculptor in a sculpture studio and so on.

6 CANDID PORTRAIT A candid portrait is taken without a subject expecting or acknowledging the photographer. This style used in photo journalism, travel photography, street photography and event photography. As opposed to an environmental portrait this image is captured at the moment rather than set up.
