Our field trip to The Grammy Museum is December 17th. Please turn in permission forms and money ASAP!
Math
We will finish up area and perimeter this week. Our focus will be on finding the missing side of a given area or perimeter problem. Students will have to use what they “do know, to find what they don’t know”. We will continue calculating the area and perimeter through formulas. A summative will be on Friday.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.MD.A.3 Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems.
Language Arts
This week, we will continue practicing comprehension with the skills of comparing and contrasting with 1st and 2nd hand accounts, summarization, main idea and details. We will also utilize graphic organizers to support the strategy of “What to Remember” when we are trying to comprehend a given text. A common summative will be administered on Friday, It will be computer based.

Social Studies
This week and the weeks leading up to our field trip, we will be studying “The People in Mississippi”. The students will know that many individuals that we study will be also have displays at the Grammy Museum and they will be able to make direct connections. The following vocabulary words are need to know for students:
Boom-a period of fast growth in an economy.
Segregation-the separation of people according to racial or ethnic group.
Suffrage-the legal right to vote.
Depression-a period of time when businesses fail, prices drop, and jobs are hard to find.
