4 WHAT ARE THE CPS GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS?

5 CREDIT BEARING REQUIREMENTS
English 4 years Math 3 years (JHCP Requires 4 years) Science 3 years Social Science (a.k.a. social studies) Computer Science 1 year Career Education Physical Education Health Education Pass – 1 year Drivers Education Pass – 1 year World Language (Spanish/French) 2 years (same language) Fine Arts 2 years Electives 3 years

6 NON CREDIT BEARING REQUIREMENTS
Service Learning Projects Consumer Education Test Constitution Test (Public Law test) District Wide Assessment (DWA) Post-Secondary Plan Examples of that evidence can include a college acceptance, gap year program, military enlistment, a career training program or job.

7 TIPS FOR PARENTS Read everything: s, mail, fliers, newsletters, etc Get to know the staff: attend school events Talk to other parents Ask questions & get involved Talk to student: check homework/grades, use Parent Portal, etc. Attend to report card dates– Teacher Parent Conferences

9 Freshman Grades Matter!

10 Freshman Year List all of the things outside of classes that make high school fun! For example: Playing sports Joining clubs Hanging out with friends Field trips

11 Grades make a difference!
Coaches/Mentors can support students to check grades and attendance

12 There is a secret to passing all classes!
Show up everyday on time to each class Classes begin at 8:15am Complete classwork/homework Participate Stay organized

13 High School vs. Elementary School
Final grades at the end of each semester Final exams at the end of the semester Elementary School Final grades at the end of the year

14 Freshman Year Semester Grade
Freshman year is divided in TWO parts Part 1- Semester 1 September through January Final Grades on January 31, 2019 Part 2- Semester 2 January through June Final Grades on June 19, 2019

16 Grades Determine Credits
Each class is worth credit 1 class = .5 credits 24 credits are required for high school graduation! 6 credits are required for promotion to sophomore year!

What is a GPA? A GPA is an average of your grades Your GPA can help you get into college and receive scholarships It is important to keep track of your GPA throughout high school
