1 Don’t Make Me Think Extra Credit
Based on the book written by: Steven Krug PowerPoint Presentation by: Cecilia Meyer

2 Less is More The whole purpose of the internet and websites is to make things easier for people. If it seems too complicated it probably is. Don’t let your homepage take on a life of its own.

3 Leave a trail If you are searching and end up in the wrong place you want to be able to find your way back home, or to the homepage in that case. Tabs on webpages help the user find a general category of what they want or guide them back to a more familiar space.

4 Do Not Overwhelm Your User
Too much going on in one place can be overwhelming and will most likely dissuade the user from sticking around. Flashing lights and music are fun but a busy space can distract the user from finding what they need, and that could be detrimental to a business’s website especially.

5 Where am I? Websites should be easy to identify.
If you can’t tell where you are, things can get very confusing. When the website changes the user should be able to recognize that.

6 Different Websites – different Goals
Amazon.com Has a lot of different tabs, and has a search bar at the center of it’s website. It makes sense for the size and scale of Amazon’s company. University at Buffalo: buffalo.edu It’s easy to see UB’s achievements and admissions criteria. The search function is not as helpful as other websites like Amazon. Can be hit or miss.
