1 CURRICULAR INTERNSHIPS MASTER’S DEGREE in SPECIALIZED TRANSLATION DEPARTMENT OF INTERPRETATION AND TRANSLATION - DIT

2 IntroduCTION Curricular internships can be carried out in companies, organizations, governmental agencies, professional services firms, either having an agreement or soon-to-be in an agreement, both in Italy and abroad. To see the full list of offers and of organizations where an internship can be made as well as reserve an internship post, go to the platform tirocini on line and enter your institutional credentials. For all information on curricular internships offered by your study course and find out how to start them, consult the website of your study course.

4 TYPES OF INTERNSHIPS Mandatory curricular internship / Internship LM = 100 h. – 4 CFU Optional advanced internship = 300 h. – 12 CFU Internship for the preparation for the final examination = 300 h. – 12 CFU Vocational and career guidance internship (only within the boundaries of Emilia Romagna!)

6 IF THE ORGANIZATION HAS NO AGREEMENT
Once the request for an agreement is received our Internship Office will send the following to the Organization: All information needed to sign up on the platform A copy of the agreement to be signed The instructions for the publication of a customized offer Our Internship Committee accepts the new agreements. The DIT Director undersigns the agreements. N.B.: lead times for entering into new agreements are subject to the timing of responses from each organization as well as from the Internship Committee’s sessions

7 INTERNSHIP IN AN ORGANIZATION HAVING AN AGREEMENT
Submitting an application online On the homepage of the platform students can view: A list of curricular internships available in organizations having an agreement. Once an offer of interest is viewed, students can apply for it following the procedure on the platform; A list of organizations having an agreement Once an offer of interest is viewed, students can do either of the following: Get in contact with the organization, make sure an internship offer is available and, once the internship programme has been agreed upon, request the company to publish a ‘customized’ offer on the Internship platform which includes the student’s fiscal code: Get in contact with the organization, make sure an internship offer is available and publish their own self-application following the procedure on the platform – see above on this page.

8 CHOOSING THE ACADEMIC TUTOR
Students must report the name of their academic tutors on their application, choosing among the professors from the Memorandum published on their study course website List of available lecturers: Master’s degree in Specialized Translation D’Arcangelo Bucaria Maldussi (manager of Language Toolkit project) Cristiana Cervini Rachele Antonini Bellassai (internships within publishing houses and editorial boards – for all degree courses at DIT)

9 STARTING A CURRICULAR INTERNSHIP
The Internship Office takes charge of the request and makes it visible to the Organization; The Organization tutor receives students’ applications, can accept or reject them on the platform and prepares an internship programme; The Internship Office double checks the internship programme, which can be either approved, rejected or amended by submitting a request to the company; The academic tutor is notified of such request and can either validate, reject or amend the internship programme; The internship is either approved or rejected by the Internship Committee.

10 STARTING A CURRICULAR INTERNSHIP
When the programme is approved students can sign and upload a signed copy of it to the platform, along with a copy of the organization tutor’s ID; The Internship Office checks all documentation and validates the programme; Only at this point can students download their diaries and start their internships

11 When to submit an application and start an internship
Students can apply for an internship on the platform any day of the year. Internships can be started after their approval through the Internship Committee. The Committee meets once a month – next dates are found on the Memorandum. Regardless of any personal contacts between students and organizations, no internship can start before the internship programme is approved and the diary download enabled. This is to ensure that internships are run only after that the corresponding insurance coverage is enabled. Please make sure to submit your application way in advance so that an internship can be started in due time.

12 Action to be taken when the internship is over
Students fill in the questionnaire and upload the full diary to the platform, with the signature and seal of the organization; The Organization fills in the questionnaire on the platform; The academic tutor checks and assesses the diary;  The internship is verbalized and the proceeding is ended on the platform.

13 DURING THE INTERNSHIP Students start their internship within the organization. Their contact person for all needs is the organization tutor.

14 Intern’s duties Every day when students are at work within their internship they must report the day, number of hours at work, and activities carried out on their diaries and must ask their organization tutor to put their signature and seal in the corresponding box; Students must oversee the number of hours at work, to make sure that no more than 8 hours per day are worked; Internships must run uninterruptedly: for absences longer than 10 consecutive days students must notify the Internship committee thereof and the latter will establish whether to interrupt the internship or not; The Organization may request for an internship extension in the measure of max 20% of hours. To do so, the Organization must – student copied - the Internship Committee; Should a student be requested to leave the organization’s premises the Organization’s tutor must notify the Internship Committee thereof by the day before at the latest, reporting date, time, reason for such travel, and name of accompanying person – usually interns are not allowed to leave the organization’s premises, due to a lack of insurance coverage outside such premises.

REQUIREMENTS FOR EQUIVALENCE  An employment or collaboration contract must be in place Such work activity cannot be done prior to enrolment to the course. The number of hours worked must correspond to the intern’s number of hours (100).  N.B.: Students of Interpretation can ask for an ex post recognition by adding up work experiences and internship activities, if any, up to 100 hours – or in accordance with the conversation table currently in use. The work activity conducted must be consistent with the student’s degree course. There may be no kinship relationships up to degree two with the legal representative, the shareholder or the manager of the Organization. The Internship Committee reserves the right to assess all cases on an individual basis N.B.: To request a job-internship equivalence students must be formally enrolled in the academic year when the internship is to be carried out.

DOCUMENTS REQUESTED FOR THE EQUIVALENCE Students wishing to apply for a work-internship equivalence must submit the following documentation to the Internship Committee: Statement from the employing Organization on the company’s headed paper in one original counterpart. The statement must be signed and sealed by the Organization tutor, and must report the contact person’s phone number who will be responsible for such information, indicating: Period and number of hours carried out – no less than 100, Duties carried out, Final assessment by the Organization. Equivalence form about the work activities downloaded from the website and filled in by the students
