Bob Bittner and Les Martinez New Mexico Public School Facilities Authority December 6, 2008
2
Purpose of FIMS Simply a tool to assist all NM districts to effectively use available resources to improved school facilities.
3
Outline FIMS 101 Benefits of full implementation
Effectively applying the tools Reaping the benefits
4
FIMS can … 1. Help you manage maintenance staff and contractors and identify opportunities for savings. 2. Help you manage utility use and cost and identify opportunities for savings.
5
3 Basic Tools Maintenance Direct Preventative Maintenance Direct
Documentation of all maintenance work Preventative Maintenance Direct Automatic generation of preventative maintenance work orders Utility Direct Capture, monitor and analyze utility usage and expenditures Note: SchoolDude is the product vendor, and FIMS is the New Mexico system
6
District is able to make Data Driven Decisions
Potential Benefits Improved learning environment in the classroom Reduction of classroom disruptions Standardized work order process Documentation process for Risk Management Enhanced performance of equipment through effective PM Reduction of premature equipment failure/replacement Energy Management at the district Finding erroneous/duplicative utility charges Identify wasteful buildings and/or utility use practices Staff accountability District is able to make Data Driven Decisions
7
The Value of Data You shouldn’t rely on intuition or opinions -- get true facts from data. Set benchmarks, measure and track your district’s progress. Note: If you don’t measure your understanding of the issue is probably very limited.
8
Potential Benefits Typical data available from FIMS on your district’s maintenance workload by: Craft (plumbing, heating, playground, roofs, doors…) Purpose (Preventative Maintenance, Building, Grounds Support Services,…) Location (HS, MS, ES…..) Assigned Employee Any combination of these and many other codes, plus graphs and charts Quality Data is important if one is to rely on this information!
9
Potential Benefits Typical data available on FIMS for your district energy management: Utility use & cost by Location (HS, MS, ES…..) Utility use & cost per Square Foot Utility use & cost per Student Plus graph and charts Data collection and analysis are critical components of an Energy Management Program!

Identify your needs using the data and adjust your operations
Reap the Benefits Use the FIMS tools to your district’s advantage Automatic Report feature Unlimited Training from Schooldude PSFA Maintenance Knowledge base Identify your needs using the data and adjust your operations
20
Reap the Benefits Effective Maintenance and Utility Management can be achieved by: Supporting your district’s commitment to embrace the FIMS tools and practices. Requesting updates and reports on the implementation and continuous development of the Preventative Maintenance and Utility Management programs Reviewing data from the reports and discussing strategies to overcome challenges Implementing change based on the data. The Data does not give you the answer but it does provide the next question to ask!
