2. Harbour facilities considered for upgrade
For background for those who live outside of Coromandel the programme of work has included investigations into a number of options situated in or around Coromandel Harbour including those in the map shown on this slide and some sites outside of the area including Kopu, Te Kouma and Waikawau.

3. Phased project that TCDC has funded exclusively to date
Total spend to date is approaching $808 k
Initiation phase outputs are the establishment of the Hauraki Coromandel Development Group, significant ecological and hydrology testing across the range of potential sites
Investigation phase outputs are the Cranleigh situation and needs analysis report and environmental law advice
Implementation phase outputs are the feasibility study, concept designs for Inner Harbour, Furey’s Creek and Sugarloaf.
All outputs generated to date remain critical to securing resource consent(s)

4. Technical feasibility study recommendations
Study confirms that inner harbour development is the long term solution but requires funding partners
Furey’s creek concept is achievable but modelling indicates that operational costs are not affordable
Capacity issues remain at Hannafords so current situation is not a long term solution . Study recommends no further development
A range of options, both north and south of Coromandel were eliminated due to technical or
Study is a highly technical document not readily digestible by those without some engineering background
Analysis supports earlier reports that a significant development close to the township is only long term option likely to bring about the suite of goals
Study affirms the findings of the earlier reports that affordability is an issue, however, it also shows technical feasibility of the development which was not part of the earlier reports.
Critical that the project remains focussed on the long term whole of harbour objectives

6. Industry based design
Some retention of recreational launching facilities allows for Te Kouma residents to use the Sugarloaf ramps after Inner Harbour developed, which is the current consented use.

7. Funding partners are essential
High level financial analysis suggests total capital costs nearing $60m for development of the inner harbour and Sugarloaf facilities, associated consents and roading impacts.
Partners include :
WRC through your regional development fund
private sector which has shown an interest in creating the marina infrastructure
Central Government around realising the export industry growth potential for aquaculture and the positive impact on tourism
PPP model with 50% borne by the private sector and 50% split evenly across the 3 public sector entities.
