4 Invitational Philosophy originates from Invitational Education and is a democratically-based self-concept theory for working with people and constructing positive organizational cultures.

5 Invitational Leadership Assumptions
Four assumptions offer a consistent “stance” through which humans can create and maintain an optimally inviting environment: Respect Trust Optimism Intentionality HO p. 4

6 Respect People are able, valuable, and responsible and should be treated accordingly.

7 Trust DKG membership should be a cooperative, collaborative activity where process is as important as product.

8 People possess untapped potential in all worthwhile human endeavor.
Optimism People possess untapped potential in all worthwhile human endeavor.

9 Intentionality Human potential can best be realized by creating and maintaining Places, Policies, Processes, and Programs, specifically designed to invite development, and by People who are intentionally inviting with themselves and others, personally and professionally.

10 Levels of Functioning Invitational Education identifies four levels of functioning in personal and professional living: Intentionally Disinviting Unintentionally Disinviting Unintentionally Inviting Intentionally Inviting 10:35-10:40 – Lecture Burst HO p. 5

11 Intentionally Disinviting
Deliberately discouraging Busy with other obligations Focused on others’ shortcomings

12 Unintentionally Disinviting
Well-meaning, but condescending Obsessed with policies and procedures Unaware of others’ feelings

13 Unintentionally Inviting
Well-liked and reasonably effective Inconsistent and uncertain in decision-making

14 Intentionally Inviting
