Sent: Sunday, October 28, :55 AM To: 'Marcus T. Muster' Subject: strange idea... In the category of "way-out-there thinking" I heard a story on NPR this morning about something called avatars. I'm sure you know all about this: kind of virtual, on-line worlds in which people live and interact through characters. I get the idea it's something like the video games kids play against each other, while they're sitting in different dorms. Anyway, I was thinking, is there a way we could leverage this technology and - sounds odd, I know - create a sort of virtual boarding school - something that prospective students could access and use and maybe even interact with, say an "avatar" version of some of our kids (operated by our kids?) and, for example, an avatar version of someone like Tamas Szilagyi? We have real-life tour guides and real-life extra help sessions with teachers. I'm trying to picture what these interactions could look like in a virtual environment. Likewise, would it be possible to offer a virtual, interactive forum in which home-schoolers could interact with teachers and students in such an environment? Far-out-there stuff, but maybe we could talk about the "reality" of "virtual reality" and how it might be used to our advantage. As you can see by the time-stamp on this , it's early. I haven't been drinking. I'm trying to consider what boarding schools might look like 20 years from now. If this is wacko, just tell me to pipe down. Otherwise, I'd like to hear what you think about this concept in general. Chris
