What is it? A writing competition for all public school students in the state of Georgia.

The Purpose It gives Georgia students the opportunity to show their best writing. It gives LaFayette Middle School students an opportunity to compete against other writers from all across the state of Georgia.

HOW DO I ENTER? You need to decide which category of writing you feel is your best. You will write, edit, revise, and submit a final copy to your teacher.

What are the categories?
Short Stories Poetry Essays Journals Personal Narratives Reports Any other form of original writing.

What are the criteria? Typed or hand written on 81/2 x 11 inch paper
1900 word limit Your paper must be engaging (hold the reader’s interest) It must be informative and/or imaginative It should have original thought and content Your words should enhance your paper You should maintain focus throughout your entire writing piece Appropriate mechanics (Capitalization, punctuation, spelling, usage) No pictures

When? You should begin to write now and continue the process until you are completely satisfied with your work. All students will have their final entry submitted to their Language Arts teacher so they can turn it in before Feb. 13th to the school coordinator

Timeline Now-Decide which category you will choose and begin writing
-Have rough draft finished -Revisions completed - Writing your final copy -Turn in your completed writing piece and entry forms to your Language Arts teacher

Share your writing with your friends.
Help each other with ideas to include in your writing.

Your teacher can NOT help you with writing, editing, or revising your paper.
