Remark that the SSIS service is a Windows service that does two things: It enumerates packages, stops packages currently executing, and it manages package storage to the file system or the MSDB database. Stress that it does not actually execute packages.
The two distinct runtime engines deserve explicit mention now but will be detailed in the remainder of module. Contrast the two engines with the one in DTS.
The discussion of the 64-bit edition is highly relevant to SSIS. It reinforces the point made on an earlier slide about scalability and performance. This is largely achieved by overcoming the 4GB addressable memory limit imposed by 32-bit systems. Emphasize that if you are developing large-scale ETL processes, you need to seriously consider the 64-bit edition.
