Presentation on theme: "Pyruvate Dehydrogenase"— Presentation transcript:

1 Pyruvate Dehydrogenase
Complex w/ 3 parts Controlled by phosphoryllation state RATE LIMITING enzyme for lactate production vs. CHO oxidation, and potential mediator of mitochondrial respiration Activation of PDC and tca substrate administration substantially increases mitochondrial respiration Inhibited by NADH and acetyl COA

2 KREBS CYCLE Functions are: CO2 production ATP production
NADH/FADH production-most important Control Redox potential controls all dehydrogenases Increased ADP controls isocitrate dehydrogenase

3 Electron Transport Chain
1 NADH + H+ = 3 ATP 1 FADH2 = 2 ATP NADH + H+ 2 H+ 2e- 1/2O2 ADP + P ATP H20 FADH2 Mitochondrial membrane Mitochondrial respiration turned on by cytosolic NADH, TCA cycle substrate (specifically Acylcarnitine)

4 Control of ETC via Creatine Phosphate Shuttle
PCr supplementation does not help mitochondrial CK

5 Fatty Acid Mobilization
PKA = Protein Kinase A

6 Fatty Acid Activation and Translocation

7 Beta-Oxidation

8 Ketogenesis
