What kind of emotional, mental and physical stress is Emma under? 2. How did she set herself up for problems? 3. Have YOU ever been in a situation like this? What happened? 2/5/2019

6 Time Management Poor time management is a major source of stress, and can cause serious problems at work. Good time managers are able meet deadlines by: (1). Predicting the tasks they have to do; (2). Estimating the time each will take; and (3). Scheduling them in the right order. 2/5/2019

7 Emma’s Busy Morning Work in small groups to complete the activity on WB p52 1. Start with the tasks from Emma’s story. Then as a group, add 4-5 other things that she probably had to do that morning. 2. Number all of Emma’s tasks in order. 3. Estimate the time needed to do each task, adding a few minutes just in case. 4. Finally, calculate her wake-up time if she is to arrive at the hotel on time. 2/5/2019

8 Work alone or in teams to complete the planning activity on WB p53
APPLYING THE SKILL Work alone or in teams to complete the planning activity on WB p53 Imagine that you need to run a number of errands and be back home by a certain time. Describe what you need to do: (“e.g., “I need to get groceries and supplies for my cousin's memorial feast, cook, and get to the feast by 2:00PM, 2:30PM at the latest.”) Then list out all the steps, put them in the right order, estimate the time, and calculate a starting time. 2/5/2019

9 Plan a FANTASY TRIP for the group!
APPLYING THE SKILL Plan a FANTASY TRIP for the group! Where do we want to go? What time does the plane leave? What time do we need to get to the airport? What needs to be done BEFORE arriving at the airport? (Shower, pack, drive, breakfast, etc). In what order? How much time for each task? What time for alarm? 2/5/2019

10 Main Point: Good time management takes a great deal of organization and skill. It is NOT something we are born knowing how to do, but it is an important tool for workplace success. 2/5/2019

11 Lesson Summary Today, we’ve learned a step by step way to organize our time so that we can do what needs to be done with- out so much extra stress. This is especially important to employers. Our next lesson will focus on another advanced skill: expressing concerns in a professional way to our coworkers or supervisors. 2/5/2019
