How it all began They started the film from the book The Pirates by Giddion Defoe. They made the film in CGI and stop motion. They had a meeting about future projects and the director picked up the book and read it and decided they had to do that film. Director-Peter Lord Producer-Julie Lockhart

Designing the pirates world
They didn't know what every thing looked like at the start. Humor is the most important thing. They always knew that the captain would have a beard. They wanted the ship to look like two ships in one. Character designer - Johny Duddle.

The Story They analyse and discuss the script.
They have to try and put every thing in order. Sometimes they do things that they don’t want to do and then things that they do, but they have to do it anyway because they wouldn’t have a good film. It is always worth it when you have finished that project. Head of storyboard- Rejian Borridaies Co director-Jeff Mewat.

Puppet making Debbie Smith was the designing sculptror.
The drawings are graphic and the puppets are made of latex Kate Anderson is the puppet designer They have a lot of the same characters They have a lot of the same characters so they can shoot the scenes at the same time.

They imagined themselves in the pirate world, also they made a cardboard mock out of the ship. They always have to overbuild to succeed. They had a cake with strawberries on it. Mouths The pirate captain has over 250 mouths
On computers they try to find different mouths For the voice Michael green is the lip sync animator The mouths essential part of the film A magnet attaches to the face of the pirates The lips need to sink or the film wouldn’t be high standard

Voice recording For months they live with it on paper.
Hugh Grant-Pirate Captain Martin Freeman-Pirate with a scarf David Tennant-Charles Darwin •The actors new what their characters looked like but at first they didn’t know how to act them out. •One thing Peter Lord said ''it all comes to life when the actors are there''.

Live Action Voice Rehearsal
They have people from the set that act what they want the char to do. Lloyd Price is the Animation Supervisor. They tried to tell the Animators what they wanted the characters to do Jay Grace is the Animation director

Animation They must put all their energy into moving the character'. It was hard to do the scene when the Pirate Captain was drunk. They have to feel what the characters feel. They have to move the mouths to different expression and at the end of the day you feel like its alive.

Ship in Water They new that a pirate Movie had to have a ship on Water but they new it was going to be a challenge. Once the ship was working the ship was there. Ben Jamin is the CG supervisor. They didn’t want the sea to be too real so they animated it on a green screen on the floor.

Sound They have different types of floors for when they move location
Each characters have different footsteps. Adrian rhose-supervising sound editor. Tim hands-dialog editor. They have to all the sounds from the smallest hand movement to the biggest ocean noice. What ever character is doing it you have to try and do that until you feel it. They even hired men to shout!
