“In the Shade” Weekly Newsletter The week of: Ooctober 23rd Math Writing Subtraction and addition Fact families Finding the mystery number in a number sentence Solving word problems Using number bonds to represent different numbers sentences. Throughout the week, students will be sent home with exit tickets. After each lesson, students complete an exit ticket to show their understanding of that day’s lesson. At the top, they will receive a +,check, or -…+ means the student showed full understanding. “Check” means they understood for the most part, and – means they need extra support for Ms. Shade This week in Writing we learned: Continuing building up our Writing Stamina Revise: Introduced revision strips ADDING DETAILS!! (Avoiding “One Day…The End”) using our illustrations to help with this Continue writing Small Moments “Unfreezing” our characters—making them move and talk Fun “spooky” stories New editing strategies Reading Extra Info This week in Reading we: Made text-to-self connections to enjoy and understand the story. Started Guided Reading Groups Learned how to visualize when reading Increased our independent reading stamina. Practiced comprehension and answering questions about the text. . Referring back to the text to support thinking. How to RETELL a story using setting, characters, the problem, solution and events. Students ARE allowed to wear costumes on Monday, BUT NO MASKS, FACE PAINT OR WEAPONS OF ANY KIND!! Please continue filling out kindness confetti as your child completes random acts of kindness.
