Primary Newsletter – Friday 28th September 2018
MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING –THANK YOU Many thanks for all of your kind donations of cakes and money to make our Macmillan coffee morning this morning a great success. We look forward to sharing the amount we raised with you next week. RECEPTION 2019 OPEN MORNINGS If you have a child born between 1st September 2014 and 31st August 2015, your child will be starting school (reception class) in September Applications opened on 1st September 2018 and close on Tuesday 5th January 2019. On Wednesday 10th October we are holing our first primary open morning, where families will be invited into school to have a talk about what we offer and have personal tours of the primary phase including our reception classes. We will also be offering support and advice on the application process if any families need help with this. If you can’t make this date, please contact the main reception to organise a personal tour at your convenience. NSPCC As you are aware, this week we had a number of assemblies led by the NSPCC, and next week, they are returning to do some follow up workshops with year 5 and 6. St Matthew Academy primary have decided to support this great charity by hosting a fundraiser next Friday during school time. Each class will be doing their usual Daily Mile, but with a fun twist. Your children will talk about the exiting ways they have chosen to complete the daily mile on that day. A separate letter explaining this in more detail and a sponsorship pack has been sent home today. It would be most appreciated that these are completed and returned along with any sponsorship money by Thursday 4th October. PHONICS WORKSHOPS On Thursday 4th October at 9.00am and 2.45pm, I am leading phonics workshops for parents of children in reception and year 1. Letters have already been sent home about this; please return the reply slips attached to your child’s class teacher. We really do urge all parents of reception and year 1 children to try to attend one of these workshops as all learning is enhanced if consolidated at home. KINDNESS– QUOTE OF THE WEEK "A warm smile is the universal language of kindness." -William Arthur Ward

This week we congratulate the following children for being chosen for Bumblebee Zion Tiger Patrice Dragonflly Jahmel Lion Aaron Butterfly Ayomide Wolf Raynen-Lei Ladybird Jonelle Jaguar Nathanial Panther Gabriel Eagle Rahiem Cheetah Jessie ATTENDANCE CUP WINNER PUNCTUALITY PANDA WINNER Class: Ladybird, Cheetah, Lions, and Wolves Class: Jaguars BEST ATTENDANCE HOUSE: Romero House LITURGY CORNER Many times we may be tempted, like the Apostle John in this week’s Gospel, to compare or judge our actions as a Christian against other followers of Christ. We may do this in our own school, parish, or faith community. Jesus makes it very clear that anyone who serves Him, even in the least, will not lose his reward. He teaches us not to be jealous of others and the service they perform for love of Him. A good way to conquer jealousy is to think of everyone being on the same team for Christ. When members find common ground in their beliefs and goals, they can more easily avoid feelings of jealousy and work together for love of God. . GOLDEN TABLE WINNERS Well done to the ‘Golden Table’ winners this week who displayed excellent manners in school.
