Supply List 1 plastic art box that snaps
4boxes of regular size crayons 20 #2 Dixon Ticonderoga (brand name) pencils 1 pair of scissors 2 bottles of Elmer’s school glue 2 large block erasers 1 one inch white AVERY binder 1 three ring zipper pencil pouch 1 box of dry erase markers 2 yellow highlighters 1container of Clorox wipes 2 boxes of tissue 1 package of construction paper On the first day of school, please send $3.00 for teacher ordered supplies.

First Grade at a Glance September:
First Grade Constitution Program- all students wear red, white, and blue. Johnny Appleseed Unit-students will bring an apple. October: Rodeo Day- students may dress in rodeo attire. Fire Prevention Week Pumpkin Patch Field Trip Red Ribbon Week Drug Free activities November: Spelling Bee- classroom and grade level December: Christmas Around the World Unit- A list will be sent home for volunteers to sign up for items needed for this week. Christmas Party-book exchange February: 100th Day of School-students will wear or create a poster with100 items. Valentine's Day party: March: Read Across America-Dr. Seuss activities May: Fun Day

First & Foremost.. Please be on time. School starts at 8:20. Dismisses at 3:20. Fridays are test days. No make up tests.

W.O.W. Binders W.O.W.= Well Organized Work
Pouch= Lunch money, notes to teacher, book orders, etc. Please put money in labeled envelope. Calendar= Will be replaced monthly to inform you of school closings, field trips, etc. Your child’s behavior will also be recorded here. Please check the calendar and initial daily. If there are no marks on the calendar for the day, your child has had an excellent day. Weekly Newsletter= Keep you informed of what we’re learning. Important dates and spelling lists will be included, also.

W.O.W. Binders cont. Important Papers= Letters from office or special notes from teacher. If they need to be signed, please sign and return them back in this pocket. Class Work/Graded Work= Work that was completed in class and/or work that was graded. Please look over with your child. Clean this pocket out every night. Homework= any work that needs to be completed that night for homework. Please complete and send back in this pocket the following day. The reading briefcase book needs to be read for homework each night. 9 Week Reading Log= Your child is asked to read 25 at home. This includes Reading Briefcase book and ANY other book they read at home. Parents are to sign off that they observed the child reading the book. Keep logs in binder to be checked by teacher.

W.O.W. Binder Reading Briefcase
Your child will be tested the first week of school and placed in a reading group based on their level of ability. Each day your child will bring home a guided reading book in the Reading Briefcase in their W.O.W. Binder. VERY IMPORTANT that you listen to your child read this book EVERY NIGHT and send it back in the Reading Briefcase EVERY DAY.

Spelling & Sight Word Tests
Some of the spelling words for the week and sight word/reading words will be sent home on Monday in the Weekly Newsletter pocket of the W.O.W. Binder. Work with your child on these words and the spelling pattern. Some of the spelling test words will be unknown but will follow the same pattern as the ones sent home Spelling Test and Sight Word/Reading Word Test every Friday

Homework Monday- Write dictation sentences Tuesday- Math Workbook page
DAILY- Read Reading Briefcase book, Study spelling words, study reading words, study Dolch sight words Homework will be sent home in the Homework pocket of the W.O.W. Binder and needs to be returned in the same pocket the following day.

Snuggle with a Good Book
Reading Parties Each 9 weeks, we will have a Reading Party based on your child’s 9 Week Reading Log. 25 Books Read= Reading Log Party! Dinner & a Movie Snuggle with a Good Book Read with a Friend Ice Cream Sundae Party

Apples & Worms Discipline System
Everyone starts on the green apple each day. Warning= Move worm to yellow apple. Miss 10 minutes of recess. 2nd warning= Move worm to red apple. Miss ALL of recess. Get a slip/ticket. 4 slips in a week= office visit Pink slip

Bathroom Breaks We take a bathroom break as a class every morning as soon as school starts. After lunch recess Following afternoon recess Your child is encouraged to go during lunch recess and afternoon recess. Emergencies will be accommodated.

Extra Info Birthdays- No cupcakes, balloons, etc. If you send invitations, they must be sent to everyone in the class. Lunch- Two choices for lunch. Please review menu before school. Fast Food lunches are discouraged. If you join your child for lunch, there will be a designated area for you to sit. Car Tags- You MUST have your car tag visible or you will be asked to come inside to pick up your child. Please look closely at morning drop off and afternoon pick up maps.
