Every time she sat down to make more plans for the party, Lieutenant Kotler was there beside her to help, and between them they seemed to make more lists than could ever possibly be needed. Shmuel lifted the bottom of the fence off the ground and handed the outfit underneath to Bruno, being particularly careful not to let it touch the muddy ground below. Shmuel was waiting for Bruno when he arrived, and for the first time ever he wasn't sitting cross-legged on the ground and staring at the dust beneath him but standing, leaning against the fence. A silence followed this remark, but it wasn’t a normal silence where it just Happens that no one is talking

Sprinkle in a dependent clause to make it compound-complex: The team captain jumped for joy, and the fans cheered because we won the state championship. OR When we won the state championship, the team captain jumped for joy, and the fans cheered.

3 Combine the following sentences to make one compound complex sentence
The culture of Nazi Germany encourages dishonesty. The Nazis had orders to eliminate any threats to the party. People wanted to protect their families.

4 Foils a foil is a character that shows qualities that are in contrast with the qualities of another character. The objective is to highlight the traits of the other character.

5 Foils Foils can also highlight injustice within a society—showing off the “haves” and the “have-nots”

6 Work with your 6 o’clock partner
Complete the foils in literature sheet, relating what each pair of foils points out to the society those two people live in.
