To search for academic journal articles and for selected chapters from textbooks, select “Journals & Books” as shown above

On Emerald Insight, the green square beside an item
indicates an article or journal you can read in full. A green and white square indicates that you have access to some content but not all.

Choosing Advanced search allows you to search on specific criteria such as author, title or date

Publication title is the name of the journal, so this search would find articles about loyalty in journals with ‘consumer’ in their title.

Content Item title: for a journal article, this searches the title of the article

Abstract: on Emerald, this searches through the abstract that appears at the start of the journal article, indicating what the article is about

You can combine terms with AND to ensure your search finds items containing both words

The default search is very flexible – notice how searching for ‘distracting’ finds
Distracted Distraction Distractions... You might need either to cater for synonyms using the “or” option in Advanced Search, or to over-ride the flexible search and look for ‘distracting’ only (see below).

You can look for synonyms by using OR

Recall how flexible the default search is: typing in employment relations finds a range of variations. You can be more specific by putting the word or words in quotations. Putting a single word in quotes ensures that you only find items containing that exact word. (see below)

Don’t forget you can control a single word too - by putting it in quotation marks.
