What is active learning at HeadSTART?
The Active Learning programme is only for Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 and is meant to: Create excitement to come to school to attend a subject the students choose and enjoy. Develop students’ potential Encourage students to be in control and responsible of their learning process Provide new learning opportunities Encourage and help students to develop a unique set of interests, talents, and goals Present or perform learning experiences, develop transferrable skills, master/retain what they learn, can relate it to previous experiences and future expectations Teachers of the AL activities become guides, mediators, facilitators

How does it work? Each student in Year 7, 8 and 9 will choose one activity from 8 different Active Learning subjects for the first half term of Term 1 (7 weeks 24/08 to 12 /10). The students will attend this activity twice a week at 8.10 am; there will be about 16 students per class across two different year groups in each activity: Mondays: Y8 + Y9 Wednesdays: Y7 + Y9 Fridays: Y8 + Y7 3. The students will keep the same activity for 7 weeks.

Please fill in the form with preferred Active Learning Activity, numbering your choices We will try to get everyone’s 1st choice but this will depend on demand. Activities can only have 16 students each. If you don’t get your first choice for Term 1, we will make sure you will do this activity for Term 2 or Term 3 DON’T WORRY, BE HAPPY
