Current System – Teacher Training Units 1-5
Will Continue – Meets the needs of people who like training together Expensive (For the RSCDS & the Candidates) Time consuming (although can be compressed into 2 x 2 weeks PLUS) Travel (the world is large) Good Dancing Standard required Artificial Exam class – only seen for exam, often contains experience dancers

Training with a suitable CTQ Tutor Use own class Make extensive use of video (for training and assessment) No time limit Make use of “The Teaching Resource” (For Everyone)

Core Training Qualification – Starting
Speak to a teacher about your interest in teaching Define your goals Select or find a tutor Write to HQ, giving details of teaching experience, and where you will be training Obtain a letter recommendation from a certified teacher and send it to HQ

1) Social Class CTQ Social night out, with dances 2) General Class CTQ Mixed ability class, with some technique

Dancing Content Analysing dances for content & suitability Introducing New Formations Producing a suitable lesson plan Planning flexibility Keeping the dancers moving

Social Content Methods to absorb new members Using new technology (music/ cribs etc) Creating dance programmes How to MC Building a community – socialising inside class and outside

Lesson Plan Video of Teaching class for 1 ½ - 2 hours Self Evaluation

Content - General Points Make the class fun (pleasant personal manner) Give praise with purpose, and correction with grace Deliver a lesson showing good dance analysis, selecting the parts which need teaching, clear communication & flow of lesson Good use of voice, coaching over the music, clear explanations etc Good use of music (or musician) Good Class Management (numbers, control, positioning)

Dancing Points Show suitable use of Warm up / Cool Down Techniques Demonstrate formations, handing and phrasing – either personally or through using other dancers, videos or other visual aids Analyse and correct faults in formations, handing and phrasing (to fit the class level) Emphasis on what the class needs to make their dancing more enjoyable!

General Class - Content
Social – PLUS Mixed ability class / mixed age class Use dances to teach and polish technique Generate suitable lesson plans Analyse steps, transitions, and formations for content and suitability for the class Assess and devise ways to improve personal teaching

CTQ Tutors Full certificate, experienced, teach to high standard and a good model for fun teaching May be a current teacher or examiner Taken part in a suitable training course Letter of recommendation Provide a personal statement

Summary We have made a lot of progress since last year
We have a much clearer idea of what is included Teaching resource dependent on new website BTQ - I believe we can get it launched by this time next year.
