What will we be accomplishing in art?
Color Theory Understanding how color impacts the viewer, the symbolism of color, and it’s importance in “reading” art will be critical foundational skills in this course. Students will use a variety of media to explore color theory and gain experience analyzing and creating color. Throughout the course, students will use implement color schemes into their art works. Mandala Art: Students will discover the relationship between art and cultures by exploring mandala art and applying their knowledge to creating a Mandala. Using color theory and the Elements and Principles of art, students will plan and produce a mandala which expresses their personal culture. Colored pencil techniques, focusing on color blending, will be an important part of the studio project. Selfie Art: During this studio artwork, students will explore the historical and contemporary functions of the self-portrait. Using digital tools, students will compose their self-portrait intentionally and use Pixlr Editor to modify the color scheme. Created with acrylic paint, this project expands foundational knowledge of mixing colors, responsibility for materials, and constructive criticism. Community Arts Art is not just housed in a museum, but woven throughout our culture and community. This project will focus on creative problem solving, working cooperatively, and implementing color theory to express a concept. Students will work together to plan and create an artwork within the community. The Connected Art Room Creation of art is not an isolated task and requires a cross-curricular mindset to become successful. For this reason, reading, writing, math, and science will be integrated within the class, creating a more rounded student of art. Requirement A sketchbook is required of each student for this class and used for in-class work, home assignments, reflective writing, and notes. Please, get a cheapo one.
