In their Naviance account students will need to list the colleges they are applying to. Students will need to fill out the recommendation request form in Naviance. Students will need to request a letter of recommendation from their counselor if it is required & the recommendation request form has been completed. Very Important! If you are applying to a 4 year college or university:
It is highly recommended that you use the Common Application to apply to colleges (if the colleges use the Common App- most do). If your colleges do use the Common Application, go to to create an account and fill out an application. If your college does not use the Common App, you will need to indicate that during the request process After you have completed and submitted your applications, follow the Naviance Step-by-Step Instruction handout to request your transcripts and letters of recommendation.

Requesting a Recommendation Letter through Naviance
Ask the teacher/letter writer IN PERSON for a recommendation. Make sure that you have completed the “Recommendation Request Info Form”, in your Naviance account. This is under the “About Me” tab and to the left under “Survey”. When completed, this can be viewed by both your counselor and teachers. If your college does not accept on-line recommendations please provide your teachers with pre-addressed/stamped envelopes to use for sending them by mail. If you are using the Common Application please be sure the colleges are in your list on the Common Application. Teachers will not be able to submit letters if this step in not complete. You do not need to request teacher letters of recommendation through both Common App and Naviance – just Naviance. Remember- a request in Naviance does not replace a face to face conversation with a teacher.
19
1. In Family Connection, click on “Letters of Recommendation”
20
2. You will come to a page where you can add requests for teacher letters of recommendation. *Remember, be sure to ask the teacher IN PERSON before requesting the letter via Naviance*. Click “Add Request”
21
3. You will then choose a teacher from our drop-down list to send a request to. Once a teacher is chosen, you check the college(s) you would like that teacher to send the letter to. Add a note for the teacher, then click “Save” to send the request and message.
22
5. You will receive a message after the request has been submitted to the teacher.

Important things to remember…
1. Complete your application (the Common Application is preferred). 2. Log into Naviance to request transcripts and letters of recommendation. Be sure to connect your Naviance account to your Common App account: *Link is on our website! 3. Complete the *Recommendation Request Info Form* (in Naviance), which is required by your counselor for a letter of recommendation. Find this under “About Me” on the left hand side under “Surveys.” You can also request teacher letters of recommendation through Naviance, after you’ve requested them in person. 4. To initiate that materials be sent to a college, go to the Career Center or your counselor’s office to pick up the *Request for Records Form* (“Green Sheet”). This must be signed by both you & your parent if you are not yet 18 years old. Turn these in to the Career Center. 5. Log on to Naviance to check your application’s status. See your counselor with any questions!!

Pay attention to Deadlines!
For all Applications- including scholarships apps- “Request for Records” forms (“green sheets” for college apps) must be submitted to the Career Center 10 school days prior to the application deadline. Applications with a Jan. 1st deadline are due to the Career Center no later than December 1st because of the holiday recess. Similar to college applications; scholarship applications require a completed request for records form- these are orange.
