Mr. Kotris Technology Plagiarism Cheating I Hon Absentee Policy
ENGLISH I Hon Absentee Policy Late / Incomplete Work YES, WE DID SOMETHING IMPORTANT WHILE YOU WERE ABSENT. It is the student’s responsibility to check the Class Portfolio posted on the and ask for any materials they missed. It is also the student’s responsibility to arrange for a test/quiz makeup date within 5 days of returning to school. Assignments that are to be submitted electronically are expected to be submitted on time regardless of whether or not the student is in school. ALL assignments are to be completed to a level of proficiency (70% or higher) and turned in on time. Work turned in late will lose 20 points off for every day past the due date. Students have 5 days from the original due date to turn an assignment for late credit. After 5 days it will no longer be accepted for credit. If missing or late work becomes an issue, calls home to discuss this will be made. * Printer and Internet issues are not an excuse for late work. Technology -We will use technology often in this classroom. Students are expected to use the technology provided in accordance with the school’s usage policy. Failure to do so will result in a loss of technology privileges. If an alternative assignment cannot be given, the student will take a “0” for the technology assignment. -Phones and other electronic devices are to stay put away OR in the cell phone drawer unless otherwise stated by a teacher. At times, individual permission can be given to use electronic devices. If I see it out without permission, your phone will be sent to the office. Plagiarism Cheating Plagiarism is the taking of ideas or writings of another and passing them off as one’s own. In this class, plagiarism includes... 1. turning in someone else’s work as your own 2. including a source in any assignment but failing to cite it 3. copying an author’s exact words (direct quote) and passing them off as your own by not citing the source 4. putting an idea from another source in your own words (paraphrasing) and passing the idea off as your own by failing to cite the source 5. copying work from another student Students caught plagiarizing will be given a ZERO for the assignment with no opportunity for makeup. * The teacher will notify the administration and contact parents if cheating / plagiarism is suspected. * The student will be given a zero for that particular test or assignment. * The student will receive a minimum of three hours of ASD. I, ________________________________________, have read and understand the rules and expectations for English I. I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to contact my teacher if I have any questions or concerns. I know that this syllabus, assignments, calendars, and resources are available to me on google classrooms at any time. I know that assignments can be submitted digitally at any time and that printer/computer/flash drive issues are not an excuse for late work. I understand that there will be a quiz over the information on this syllabus to ensure I read and understand the rules and expectations.
