2
Energy Source Sunlight is the source of the energy for the food chain in the desert. In any food chain, the energy contained in food was once energy from the sun. Plants get energy from sunlight. Animals get energy from plants or other animals.
3
Producer Grass is the producer in this desert food chain.
When the sun hits the grass the grass makes its own food. When an animal breaths out they breath out carbon dioxide and the grass takes that in also.
4
Primary Consumer When the producer gets its energy from the sun the Primary Consumer eats the producer. The energy from the producers body transfers into the Primary Consumer's body.
5
Secondary Consumer When the Primary Consumer eats the producer the Secondary Consumer eats the Primary Consumer The energy from the Primary Consumers transfers to the Secondary Consumer body.
6
Tertiary Consumer When the coyote eats the desert kit fox the energy from that animal transfers to the coyote. The Secondary Consumer got that energy from the Primary Consumer which got that energy from the Producer and the Producer got it from the sun which is the energy source.
