Our Kindergarten Day Mrs. Fagan 2015-2016 Garfield Elementary Time
Activity We are learning… 8:00-8:30 Good Morning Garfield! Morning work, attendance, parent notes and bus changes are addressed We will start every day off the our 8 Expectations and Garfield Creed. Students will be practicing sentence writing and illustrating in a fun way. As the year progresses we will add a variety of reading and math review activities. 8:30-9:00 Whole Group Reading and Word Study This is an interactive reading activity where students join in or share the reading of a poem, book, or other text. 9:00-10:15 Guided Reading and literacy stations *break for recess This is a chance for the teacher to pull small reading groups and to provide reading instruction at each student’s individual ability. The students not meeting with the teacher will be practicing literacy skills individually or with a partner 9:30-9:45 Morning Recess Students will use this time to take a break outside or in our pod area with movement activities. 10:00-10:40 Computer Lab (Tuesdays Only) Students will visit the computer lab and work on logging into the network, accessing and retrieving data, and creating technology projects. 10:15-10:40 Guided Reading and literacy stations 10:40-11 Writer’s Workshop *Monday-Thursday The teacher will provide writing lessons that will guide the students as they make meaning in their illustrations and writing composition. Students write on a topic of their own choice. Content Area/ Science *Friday Only Students will learn science and social studies content during this time. NOTE: Often times the texts selected during Guided Reading will support the content being discussed during our content area studies. 1:00-11:35 Lunch and recess Students will eat lunch in the cafeteria after having recess. 11:35-12:05 Intervention Students work with various Kindergarten teachers specific skills they are working toward. (Letter/Sound identification,, Rhyme, CVC, number work, shapes, addition/subtraction) 12:05-12:45 Math Workshop The teacher will provide math lessons to the whole group. Students will then practice these particular skills with a partner and again individually. New skills are introduced during this period. 12:45-1:35 Specials Students will attend special classes on a rotating basis (Library, Counseling, P.E., and Music). This is a great time to call the teacher if needed. 1:35-2:20 Math Workstations Students will practice our math skills with a partner and again individually using manipulatives and games. Teacher will use this time to pull students to work in small groups and one on one. 2:20-2:50 Free Choice Centers Students are given an opportunity to explore interests. (iPads, dramatic, legos, blocks, art, sensory etc.) 2:50-3:00 Goodbye Wildcats Students will join together on the carpet and share what we learned and say farewell until tomorrow!
