Characteristics of a successful Travel Plan - comprehensive: all modes; all stakeholders - site-specific: tailored to local situation and needs - long-term: not just a one-off or quick fix - implemented: not just a glossy report! - well-resourced & sustainable: finance and people - effective marketing: getting that message across! - ‘owned’: fully accepted and integrated at all levels

What benefit is there? or “What’s in it for me?” - Benefits for individuals - Benefits for the institution - Benefits for partners - Benefits for the community - Benefits for the environment Be realistic!

(why do this now?) - what are the priorities? - same for everyone? - what can we do on our own? - who needs to be involved in the institution? - what external partners do we need? - what targets/expectations/timescales?

Successful Travel Planning for Universities and Colleges: an EAUC Workshop What are the challenges? - lack of knowledge, interest or understanding - antipathy: OK for others but leave me out of it - lack of clarity of purpose and/or senior support - peripheral to mainstream decision-making - complex/long-winded committee structure - junior position of practitioner - ingrained culture and/or tradition - importance of information and marketing

So how do we go about it? This Workshop aims to: Address the questions raised Present examples of good practice Focus on the practical issues of implementation Provide opportunity for questions, discussion etc Identify topics for future follow-on workshops
