5 Effective Communications
Is face to face better than electronic? Is better than phone call? Should it be formal or informal? Content, tone, format must be appropriate for the audience Respond to message promptly

6 Time-Shifting Communication
Delay between transmission & receipt of info AKA Asynchronous , Texting, Blog, Discussion/Bulletin Board When is texting appropriate/not appropriate? What’s the purpose of a blog? Post a diary, journal, etc. Your observations or opinions Can be used for marketing products ALL OF THESE PROVIDE A HISTORY OR PROOF OF THE CONVERSATION. Texting is delayed as you can send even if other phone is off. When is texting appropriate/not appropriate? instead if it will take several screens of long messages If they are often not by their phone or they don’t answer immediately Not experienced with texting/technology Is good if someone is hard f hearing When you can’t speak out loud Not when driving Purpose of a Blog- post diary/journal/observations/opinions/marketing Tags- used in a blog to simplify & help the search process

7 Netiquette Following good manners & behavior when communicating over electronic media Consider group texting annoyances Careful with sarcasm over text/ No all caps No emoticons/abbreviations in business texts Respond in timely manner Netiquette rules when blogging: Write original content (DO NOT PLAGIARIZE) Proofread & check for spelling/grammar Respond to those who comment Give credit when quoting others/link to them Use kind & polite words when commenting; Avoid negative

Best when you have to explain a complicated idea, discuss a sensitive topic, need an immediate response, or it’s an emergency. VoIP needs an Internet connection. No Internet= no calls. Search for name or in NEW CONVERSATION, type message GROUP: do the same but click check box next to each name & click MESSAGE You can send text message to mobile phones too (only if you have a Google Voice account). First, you'll need to make sure you have text messaging turned on. Click the Menu button in the top-right corner of the window, then select Settings. Then an SMS button will appear in the Hangouts window. Max video call is 10.
