DANSE Reflectometry Paul Kienzle, NIST/University of Maryland, DMR The flexibility of DANSE software allows researchers to take full advantage of the strengths of reflectometry. It is designed to allow detailed models and the simultaneous modelling of measurements made in multiple contrasts, and can easily be extended for specific problems. This increases the information obtained and helps refine complex systems - such as the orientation and density of a protein targeted for biosensor use in a synthetic membrane. Si Fe Au Six neutron contrasts are refined simultaneously to determine the structure of a membrane protein adsorbed to gold

DANSE Reflectometry Paul Kienzle, NIST/University of Maryland, DMR Magnetic read/write head scanning the surface of a harddisk. Reflectometry can probe a wide range of materials of interest to science and industry, providing insight into near surface electronic, magnetic and nuclear structures unavailable to other techniques. Applications include micromagnetic structure of high density magnetic storage devices, conformations of proteins in biological membranes and shapes of polymer brushes used in protective coatings. DANSE software will ease the analysis of reflectometry data and extend the state of the art in analysis of in-plane structures on the surface. Undergraduate Stephanie Moyerman and industry researcher Matt Carey discussing their measurements of potential harddisk surface materials. Data was analyzed using DANSE reflectometry software.
