1 6th grade warm ups Week of

2 Monday(Mon.)9-25-17 EQ: How do the inner and outer planets differ?
WU: What is the difference between period of rotation and period of revolution? Ans: 1:The period of rotation is the amount of time a planet takes to spin on its axis. (day and night) 2: While period of revolution is the amount of time the planet takes to make one trip around the sun. (year)

3 Tuesday (Tues.) WU: How are Venus and Earth alike and how are they different? Ans: Different (Venus) Alike/Similiar Hottest surface temperature of any planet Rotates in a clockwise direction(retrograde) when viewed from the North Pole Very dense atmosphere, also contains destructive acids Size Density Mass Surface gravity

4 Wednesday(Wed.) WU: What are some of the characteristics of Earth that make it suitable for life? Ans: Earth is warm enough to keep most water from freezing and cool enough to keep its water from boiling.

5 Thursday(Thurs.) WU: What features found on Mars are similar to those found on Earth? Ans: 1:Scientist have found evidence of frozen water and ice caps. 2: It also has volcanoes along with the largest mountain in the solar system.(Olympus Mons).

6 Friday (Fri.) 8-29-17 WU: What is the great red spot on Jupiter?
Ans: The Great Red Spot on Jupiter is a storm system that is more than 400 years old and is about 3 times the diameter of Earth.

8 Monday (Mon.) 10-2-17 WU: What are Saturn’s rings made of?
Ans: Saturn’s rings are made up of ice particles ranging in size from a few centimeters to several meters wide.

9 Tuesday (Tues.) WU: Why do scientist claim that Saturn is still forming? Ans: Scientist think that Saturn’s extra energy comes from Helium gas falling out of the atmosphere and sinking to Saturn’s core.

10 Wednesday(Wed.)10-4-17 WU: Why does Uranus have a blue green color?
Ans: The atmosphere of Uranus is mainly hydrogen and methane gases, which absorb red light from the sun. Therefore it appears to blue green in color.

11 Thursday(Thurs.) WU: How did the cloud belts form around Neptune? Ans: 1:Neptune’s interior releases thermal (heat) energy into its outer layers. 2:This energy helps warm gases rise and cool gases sink. 3:This sets up wind patterns that create belts of clouds.

12 Friday(Fri.) WU: A new planet has been discovered past Pluto. Based what you have learned how would you describe this new planet. Ans: 1: It would be considered a gas giant because it has a deep massive atmosphere which is made up of gases. 2: It would be less dense than the inner planets. 3: It would be very cold. 4: It would revolve around the Sun very slowly.
