MUSSIC IN THE CHURCH—QUOTE EPHESIANS 5:19
Cards 47-50 MUSSIC IN THE CHURCH—QUOTE EPHESIANS 5:19 “ SPEAKING TO YOURSELVES IN PSALMS AND HYMNS AND SPIRITUAL SONGS SINGING AND MAKING MELODY IN YOUR HEART TO THE LORD” IN PSALMS: Psalms are songs devoted to the praise of God, extolling His name, power, character, and works. The songs of David are mainly of this character, hence are called Psalms. HYMNS: Hymns are songs of praise, thanksgiving and supplication, teaching our dependence of God and His willingness to hear and bless. SPIRITUAL SONGS: Spiritual songs are those intended to inspire and cultivate feelings of spiritual devotion and to bring the spirit of man into harmony with and under the control of the Spirit of God. The human voice is the most complicated, delicate, and perfect musical instrument known to man. It is the perfection of the Maker’s handiwork as a musical instrument, and is capable of more musical combinations and harmonies far sweeter and more varied than any and all instruments of human make. Singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord brings the thoughts and feelings of the heart into harmony with the sentiment of the song. It is the sentiment that is sung that constitutes the worship; there is no acceptable worship in music distinct for the sentiment sung. The music of the song is only a means of impressing the sentiment on the hearts of both singer and hearer. What is sung must be the outgrowth of the word of God dwelling richly in the heart. It is done by speaking the word of God in song. The purpose is to praise God. No performance of an instrument can possibly grow out of the word of God in the heart; a mechanical instrument cannot speak that word either to praise God or to teach and admonish one another. The use of the instrument hinders and destroys the essential purpose of the worship song.

CHILDREN OBEY YOUR PARENTS
FOR THIS IS RIGHT EPHESIANS 6:1 The same obligation and restriction in obeying parents, not only for gratitude and love of the parent, but because God requires it. In obeying the parent the child obeys God, this is the added obligation. But the child old enough to be accountable to God is under higher obligation to obey God than it is to obey the parent. One must disobey the parent in order to obey God when their requirements conflict. The first duty is to God.

NEEDED BY THE CHURCH TO WITHSTAND THE DEVIL
SHIELD OF FAITH—The shield was held on the left arm and could be used to protect the entire body, and was very essential to the safety of the warrior. Likewise faith in the conflicts of life, is the Christian soldier’s main defense. Sometimes faith seems to be our only defense. Without firm faith to serve as a protective shield we will fall. Our faith must control the actions of our body in our daily lives. Using our shield of faith, we can protect ourselves from whatever comes our way. HELMET OF SALVATION—The Roman soldier’s helmet was a cap made of thick leather or brass. It was used to guard the head from a blow. Our helmet is to help us guard our thoughts. We are to think the way God wants you to, even when you are tempted not to. You have heard the phrase: GARBAGE IN-GARBAGE OUT. What you put in your mind is what you will think about. What you think about will determine what you do! BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS—The breastplate was to protect the breast and chest, and the vital organs within. Righteousness is the breastplate God has furnished man to protect himself from the darts the enemy may hurl at him. Are you a person of character? God gave you the breastplate of righteousness to protect the godly character He is creating in you. Righteousness is gained by doing the will of God. BELT OF TRUTH—The belt was an essential part of the soldier’s equipment, and the girding of the loins gives strength to his labor. Foundational to our armor, and our stand as a Christian is truth. We can resist the evil one by exposing his lies to the truth of the Bible. SWORD OF THE SPIRIT-- (Word of God)—Imagine how foolish it would be for a soldier to enter a fierce battle with a sword that was dull, nicked, and cracked! “The word of God is sharp”, because it is the sword of the Spirit. The sword, the Word of God, is one of our best weapons. Use it with the same skill as Jesus did in the wilderness against Satan. It is that which God has spoken, his word, the Bible, the power of God!!!!! SHOES THE GOSPEL OF PEACE—In Bible times, a soldier’s shoes were very important. In battle, his shoes provided a sure foothold from which to fight his enemy. Do you have a sure foothold of peace in the midst of the storms of life? The Good News of the Gospel is that anyone can find peace with God through Jesus Christ. Preparation, or readiness, comes from the Gospel, we are to prepare ourselves with the good news of Jesus Christ! Our steadfast goal is the Good News and nothing will stop us!
