Movement that began in the early 1900s Objectives End European control over Africa Africa should become a homeland for people of African descent Develop a unified political identity

Early Pan-Africanism After World War I ended, self rule and self determination became more popular around the world By the 1930’s, most African colonies were calling for independence due to the high amounts of nationalism

Post World War II After World War II, African colonies began gaining independence Most colonies had peaceful transitions of power A few colonies achieved independence by using violence

Criticism of Pan - Africanism
Pan – Africanism is often criticized due to the cultural differences found throughout the African continent
