Formerly known as the Extend the Dream Scholarship, the Horizon Award is a $1,000 scholarship, which will be awarded to five high school seniors for one-time use at their chosen college or university. 2018-2019 FREEDOM FUND COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP
For graduating senior in Henry County Public Schools in need of financial assistance to achieve their goals of a higher education. The nonrenewable scholarship will be awarded based on academic achievement, awards/honors, academic enrichment, extracurricular, community service, leadership activities, and financial need. Recipient(s), nor their parent(s)/guardian(s) are required to be members of the Henry County NAACP Branch, but are encouraged to join. Scholarship recipient(s) will be recognized at the Annual Freedom Fund Banquet, March 16, 2019. If you are extremely motivated and a bright high school senior, then you may be eligible to win full tuition, room and board, and summer stipends for 4 years. A $1,000 Scholarship For Those Affected By Auto Accidents Students applying must submit an essay where you explain, present, inspire, or otherwise convince us as to why you deserve to win this scholarship. There are no conditions or requirements for this essay. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is December 15th of each year.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Contest Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Rho Sigma Lambda Chapter (“Rho Sigma Lambda”) proudly presents its annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Contest (“Oratorical Contest”). The Oratorical Contest will be February 9, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church Community Center, which is located at 262 Macon Street, McDonough, Georgia All 11th and 12th grade students are eligible to participate. The winner of the Oratorical Contest will win a $1, scholarship and the second-place winner will receive a $500 scholarship from Rho Sigma Lambda. The theme of this year’s Oratorical Contest is, “What would Dr. King see as the biggest social justice issue of today? How can society address this?" Contestants must submit an original speech that is no less than 750 words and no more than 1,000 words. The speech can be no less than 4 minutes and 30 seconds in length when spoken or more than 7 minutes and 30 seconds when spoken. All speeches must address the above themes.
