1 New accusation is trouble for Kavanaugh

2 Democrats are demanding an immediate halt to Brett Kavanaugh's nomination process after his increasingly troubled hopes of reaching the Supreme Court were hit by a new allegation made over the weekend of sexual misconduct as a young man. Kavanaugh quickly denied the new accusation by a female former fellow student about an alleged incident when he was at Yale University in the early 1980s. This new allegation is being made by Deborah Ramirez, 53, who was at Yale with Kavanaugh and said she remembers him exposing himself to her at a dormitory party. He branded the story reported by The New Yorker as part of a smear campaign by Democrats, a charge echoed by the White House and that the alleged event from 35 years ago did not happen. The fresh trouble for Kavanaugh emerged hours after arrangements were finally locked in for a Senate hearing on Thursday at which his first accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, will allege that he sexually assaulted her when they were teenagers in high school. Kavanaugh was nominated by President Donald Trump to be the newest member of the U.S. Supreme Court.

The latest death toll in last week's ferry disaster in Tanzania is 224. We may never know how many people actually died in the capsizing, since there was no record of the total number of passengers. Bill Cosby was convicted in April of three counts of assault…Monday, the 81-year-old comedian appears in court in Pennsylvania for his sentencing. He could get up to 10 years in prison for each conviction, but prosecutors have indicated they are likely to ask for a lesser sentence. If he must serve time, he could be taken into custody immediately. On Friday, department officers for a Texas prison went to pick up two pallets of donated bananas and discovered that it was more than just fruit. Within the boxes, officials discovered 540 packages of cocaine, valued at almost $18 million. The donation came from Port of America in Freeport, Texas, according to the department, though it's unclear who or when the cocaine entered the shipment. It's still not clear who is responsible for a terror attack that killed 29 people at a military parade in Iran over the weekend. Iran is blaming Saudi Arabia for allegedly supporting perpetrators of the attack, and the US for allegedly providing materials to attackers. To make things even more complicated, ISIS shared a video the day after the attack claiming to show three of the four alleged attackers, but none of them said they were actually working for ISIS. The Prime Minister of India has launched the world's biggest health care program, with the rollout of free coverage for an estimated half a billion of India's poorest citizens. Narendra Modi said his plan -- which is being dubbed "Modicare" -- will cover an estimated 100 million "poor and vulnerable" families to the tune of 500,000 rupees ($7,800) in hospital costs per year. Some are hopeful the plan improves the quality of life for India's poorest citizens, critics say the announcement was timed to elicit a boost ahead of national elections early next year, and questioned Modi's ability to deliver on his promise.
