Lessons Learned NCWorks Certified Career Pathways WIOA Definition of Career Pathways The term ‘‘career pathway’’ means a combination of rigorous and high quality education, training, and other services that— aligns with the skill needs of industries in the economy of the State or regional economy involved; prepares an individual to be successful in any of a full range of secondary or postsecondary education options, including apprenticeships…; includes counseling to support an individual in achieving the individual's education and career goals; includes, as appropriate, education offered concurrently with and in the same context as workforce preparation activities and training for a specific occupation or occupational cluster; organizes education, training, and other services to meet the particular needs of an individual in a manner that accelerates the educational and career advancement of the individual to the extent practicable; enables an individual to attain a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent, and at least 1 recognized postsecondary credential; and helps an individual enter or advance within a specific occupation or occupational cluster. Bringing rural North Carolinians into the labor market requires removing barriers to employment and creating more good jobs that are accessible. Investing in rural residents is a win-win for the economy.

25 NCWorks Certified Career Pathways Eight Criteria: The Navigator is a free, first-of-its-kind, online tool to lead the way in connecting education to career. The platform brings together members of the business, education, and workforce development communities in a space where they can post, search for, and measure work-based learning opportunities. These opportunities are experiential learning activities ranging from guest speaking roles to apprenticeships, posted by businesses and used by educators and members of the workforce communities. The Navigator platform was developed by the North Carolina Business Committee for Education (NCBCE), in partnership with Fidelity Investments and the Office of the Governor. It offers free daylong, interactive science activities, rigorous summer programs, and teacher professional development. Reference:
