2. Who was Walt Disney?
He was born in 1901 in Chicago. His family moved to Missouri in 1906, the Disneys lived in a farm and Walt developed a strong interest in drawing.
His father had to sell the farm and they moved to Kansas City. Walt fell in love with movies.
In 1917 the family moved to Chicago, where Walt drew pictures for a newspaper. Walt hoped to become a newspaper cartoonist. Walt lied about his age to be accepted into the American Ambulance Corps and served in France following the end of World War I.

3. In 1920 he came back to Kansas City
In 1920 he came back to Kansas City. Walt created «LAUGH-O-GRAMS», which produced advertising and story cartoons. But Laugh-O-gram goes bankrupt.
Walt moved to Hollywood to become a director. With his brother Roy, he established the Disney Brothers Studio when he landed a contract for the “ALICE COMEDIES,” a series in which a young girl filmed in live action interacts with animated characters.
The film distributor Charles Mintz contracts Walt Disney Studios to create a new series of animation films based on an undeveloped character, OSWALD THE LUCKY RABBIT.

4. “It all started with a mouse”: the birth of Mickey Mouse
In 1928 Walt created MICKEY MOUSE. He joins the vanguard of the talking-picture revolution when he produces STEAMBOAT WILLIE, an innovative cartoon that synchronizes sound and animation. During the next year, Mickey becomes a national symbol.
Walt launches “SILLY SYMPHONIES,” a series of cartoons that combine music and animation. Three Little Pigs, the 36th “Silly Symphony,” is distributed, with the original song, “Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?” and the song becomes a national hit and an anthem for the Great Depression.
