The Student’s Conflict Cycle Questions to ask for the Timeline *If you can discover the student’s Irrational Beliefs, you have found a way to enter their world* THOUGHTS ‘What went through your mind?”… “You must’ve had some thoughts about that.”… “What were you saying to yourself at this point?” EVENT STRESS “Help me understand” What happened? Where did it happen? Who was involved? How long did it go on? How tough was it? How often does it happen? Were others involved? What happen before? (LOOK FOR A PATTERN) FEELINGS “How did that make you…? On a scale of 1 to 10 how mad, disappointed, upset, afraid, embarrassed, frustrated, etc… were you?” (DETERMINE INTENSITY) BEHAVIOR “What did you do when you were feeling…(So upset)?” “How did you show your feelings?” “On a scale from 1 to 10 how hard did you hit (kick), yell (loud), etc…” REACTION OF OTHERS “Other student(s) “How did the teacher, students, etc.. Respond?” “Then what happened?” (GETTING THE STUDENT TO REALIZE THEIR EFFECT ON OTHERS AND THEIR ROLE IN THE CONFLICT)
