¡Buenos días! = Good morning ¡Buenas tardes! = Good afternoon ¡Buenas noches! = Good evening Make sure the greeting corresponds with the time of day.

3 Titles/Names When used alone: Señor = sir Señora= ma’am/madam
Señorita= miss When used with people’s last names: Señor= “Mr.” (e.g., Sr. Rodriguez) Señora= “Mrs.” (e.g. Sra. Gomez) Señorita= “Miss” or “Ms.” (e.g. Srta. Lopez)

4 What’s your name? Format
¡Hola! ¿Cómo te llamas? = Hello, what’s your name Me llamo ___. ¿Y tú? = My name is ___, and yourself? Me llamo ____. Mucho gusto. = My name is ___. My pleasure. Encantado (masculine)/Encantada (feminine)= Charmed. Igualmente. = Equally/Same here. Gracias. = Thank you.

5 Put it together! Go around the classroom and greet each other! (¡En español!) Follow that format!

6 Remember! Spanish is a gendered language!
Typically, masculine words end with an “o” and feminine ones end with an “a” Masculine words are paired with “el” and feminine words are paired with “la”. (e.g. el libro= the book; la mochila- the backpack) *Remember two “L’s” in Spanish make the “Y” sound. *Remember the pronunciation for the vowels (vocales) A= ah E=eh I=ee O= oh (soft) U= ooh

7 You! In Spanish, there are two ways to address someone as “you.”
Tú (informal). Use it when speaking to your friends, people your own age, children, etc. Usted (formal). Use it when speaking to strangers, older people, and people with positions of authority. Used as a sign of respect. When writing usted, it is abbreviated as Ud. (Yes, capitalized!)

8 Greetings/Goodbyes Hola= Hello (I’m sure you already knew this)
Bienvenidos= Welcome Adiòs = Goodbye Nos vemos= We’ll see each other Hasta luego = See you later Hasta mañana= Until tomorrow In Spanish, if the “H” is at the front of the word, it is silent!

11 ¿Qué hora es? If it’s 1 o’clock or after 1 but not yet 2 o’clock, you use “es la.” Es la una. (It is one- 1:00) Es la una y diez. (1:10) If it’s 2 o’clock or after you use “son las” Son las dos. (It is 2 o’clock) Son las tres (It is 3 o’clock)… Son las diez (It is 10 o’clock). Son las once (It is 11 o’clock). Son las doce (It is 12 o’clock)

12 ¿Qué hora es? (continued)
Half hour is translated to “y media” E.g. 6:30 is “seis y media” So you would say- Son las seis y media Fifteen minutes into the time is referred to “cuarto”. Like saying a 1/4th of the time. E.g. 3:15 is tres y cuarto So you would say- Son las tres y cuarto If it’s 6:40 then you would say 7 menos veinte (7 minus 20). Note: This is from your book, but not commonly used when speaking. Other times would just be adding the numbers after. E.g. 5:05= cinco y cinco. 10:52= diez y cincuenta y dos, etc

La nariz = The nose La boca= The mouth El estómago= The stomach El brazo= The arm El dedo= The finger La mano = The hand La pierna= The leg El pie= The foot
