APRIL 24, 2013 EQ: What receptors are responsible for perception of the senses? Warm-Up: Match the following: 1. Thyroxine A. Hypercalcemic 2. Calcitonin B. Stimulates ovulation & testosterone production 3. LH C. Stimulates metabolism Epinephrine D. Produced by the thyroid gland; hypocalcemic Parathyroid E. Stimulated by sympathetic nervous system; “flight or fight response”

SENSES: Receptors

MECHANORECEPTORS *Receptors that detect touch, vibration, and pressure
*Help with hearing and balance

THERMORECEPTORS *Receptors that sense heat that convert it into a nervous impulse that will cause you to pull away

CHEMORECEPTORS *Receptors for taste and smell that respond to chemicals *The receptors on the tongue are very similar to receptors used for the sense of smell

PHOTORECEPTORS *Rods and cones in the retina of the eye that respond to light, allowing you to see
