NEWEL- New Ways into Employment and Learning Leonardo Learning Partnership NEWEL Motive of the Project Rationale: Some people have difficulty trying to find traditional employment (fixed contract work with an employer). In the current economic climate, competition for jobs is fierce and there are additional challenges facing minorities, migrants disadvantaged/disabled people. Issue/Problem; Many people have the desire and drive to find employment or to create employment for themselves but struggle to do so. Solutions: To look at alternative non-traditional employment opportunities or routes; cooperatives, social enterprises, part-time, job share, flexible working and to look at new training and learning opportunities. Gain knowledge and experience as to what training people need, how can this training be offered, how can individuals gain motivation for the training and what support do they need and to look at new and innovative solutions to these issues.

NEWEL- New Ways into Employment and Learning Leonardo Learning Partnership NEWEL Ref; 2011-1-GB2-LEO04-05359 The concrete objectives are: -- Work with staff and adult learners to extend understanding about the alternatives to "traditional" employment. -- Help staff and learners to understand the routeways into the alternatives, and the training required to make these alternatives realistic. -- Organise local and international visits to good, working examples; learn about how they function, and identify the training and support needs that are included in their success. -- Use this new knowledge to improve the VET provision offered by our centres, thus increasing our learners' options for paid work. -- Produce a simple project guidebook, that will summarise the learning and the new ideas gained, and provide an easy-access entry point for others. Make this valuable new information freely available. Approach to be taken: -- Identification of, and learning from, real existing examples of successful alternatives to traditional employment. Most of the work will involve finding, visiting and learning from cooperatives, partnerships, part-time and jobshare operations. The main aim is to discover the training needed to achieve success, and how we can replicate this in our VET organisations. -- All the visits will be documented in clear language, providing a good set of Best Practice examples. The training requirements will be documented according to the opportunities and availability in each partner country.
