1. Thanksgiving honors God

v.1 It glorifies God for His goodness and love
“… as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God” (2 Cor. 4:15) “Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Eph. 5:20)

v.2-5 It motivates us to please God
“Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving” Eph. 5:4 Gratitude is something to express! v.2 “Who can proclaim the mighty deeds of the Lord, or declare all His praise?”

2. Ingratitude dishonors God

Sandwiched between two songs of praise and thanksgiving is a history of failures (and God’s mercy & grace)

3. True thankfulness comes from the heart

If we are ungrateful – either:
We don’t appreciate the heart of the giver We don’t value what is given We don’t see the pride and self-centeredness of our own hearts
