Objectives: - To know the main actions of the Fenians in the period To be able to evaluate how far they influenced the relationship between Britain and Ireland. Outcomes: - D grade – will be able to describe the actions of the Fenians. C grade – will be able to explain the impact of individual actions. B grade – will be able to analyse the importance of the Fenians based on a range of evidence. A grade – will be able to reach a substantiated conclusion about the impact of the Fenians on the relationship between Britain and Ireland. Differentiated learning : - Reading is differentiated. Literacy: - Vocab triangle added to throughout to ensure that students know the key terminology. SMSC: - Cultural – importance and role groups in developing a nationalist belief. Comparison, where appropriate, with modern examples to compare import of groups.

How far did Irish nationalism decline between 1891 and 1912?
Subject Objective(s) To know the impact of the failure to pass home rule on constitutional nationalism, republicanism, unionism and cultural nationalism. To be able to evaluate how far nationalism declined in this period. Learning Outcomes: D grade – will be able to describe what happened to your given theme. C grade – will be able to explain what happened to your given theme. B grade – will be able to analyse how far investigating your theme shows that nationalism declined. A grade – will be able to reach a substantiated conclusion about whether what happened to your theme shows nationalism was in decline.

What was the impact of the failure to pass Home Rule?
You are going to be split into 3 groups. You are each going to research one of the key themes we have already looked at. One group is also going to pick up a new theme – cultural nationalism. Your aim is to use the information to address the following statement: The years saw Irish nationalism at its weakest point since 1801. You must find evidence to both support the statement and undermine it. You must then reach a conclusion about how far the history of your theme supports this view.

Mini Plenary Join up with someone who has focussed on a different theme. Talk through your findings and how far the evidence you have found supports the enquiry question. Be prepared to feed back what your partner has said to you – you cannot take notes.
