Dear God, we are the young – our lives are a mystery, we are the old – who yearn for your face, we have been called to be light to the whole human race.
As we celebrate our many freedoms in these United States we give thanks to you for making

18. freedom possible, remembering and giving thanks for those who have sacrificed their own lives and loved ones to keep our freedoms alive. Show us how to be your light in our world. We lift to you our nation’s political divisions, moral struggles, racial divides, drug wars, unrelenting poverty of body and soul,

19. and our own known and unknown participation in these troubles and trials.
Let your light so shine, show us the errors of our way. Make us new in your Holy Spirit. Let your light so shine, that we might truly praise and worship you, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.

After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go. 2 He said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.

See, I am sending you out like lambs into the midst of wolves. 4 Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and greet no one on the road. 5 Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house!’ 6 And if anyone is there who shares in peace, your peace will rest on that person; but if not, it will return to you.
