How to Be a Martyr… without getting yourself killed

What is a Martyr? Usually defined as one who gives his life for a cause. Martyrs who gave their lives for Christ inspire and challenge our faith (Acts 22:20; Revelation 2:13; 17:6). The Greek word translated “martyr” in the above passages actually means “witness” and it is so translated in Acts 1:8, 22; 2:32; 3:15; 5:32; 10:19; 10:41; 13:31; 22:15; 26:16. A witness gives testimony regarding what he has seen or experienced. We cannot be martyrs/witnesses in the same way the apostles were.

How Can we Be Martyrs? By believing, repeating and living the apostles’ testimony (2 Timothy 1:7-8) We are enabled to do this by God Himself, who has not given us a spirit of fear, but of … Power (Romans 1:16-17; Eph. 3:20; 1:18-20) Love (2 Corinthians 5:10-14) Discipline (a sound mind or self control Corinthians 9:27)

Ultimate Victory Belongs to the Martyrs of Christ
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” -- Revelation 12:11
